Argentine Tennis Player Permanently Banned for Match Fixing

The Global Tennis Integrity Agency (GTIA) has permanently prohibited Argentine competitor Franco Ferrucci from participating in any tennis events after he confessed to manipulating the outcomes of nine contests between 2014 and 2018.

Ferrucci, whose highest ranking was 920 globally, was discovered to have breached the guidelines of the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program (TACP) on five separate occasions. He was also determined to have violated the regulations thrice by requesting other players to intentionally underperform in matches.

Ferrucci was also accused of failing to report attempts to influence the results of matches to the GTIA.

On April 12, the anti-corruption hearing official, Raj Parker, decided that Ferrucci would be barred from all tennis competitions.

Ferrucci was also assessed a monetary penalty of $25,000.

This announcement follows the GTIA’s decision to suspend Slovakian tennis player Barbara Palcatova for a period of three years for manipulating match outcomes. Palcatova is the tenth player to be prohibited from competing by the GTIA this year.

This month, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) permanently prohibited Russian tennis players Sofia Dmitrieva and Aliya Merdveyeva from competing due to their participation in match manipulation.

The ITIA reported a reduction in the number of suspicious wagering reports this month.
