Tennis Official Permanently Banned for Match Manipulation

The global tennis integrity body, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA), has permanently barred chair umpire Fabian Carreras from officiating, finding him guilty of violating multiple anti-corruption regulations.

Carreras, a native of the Dominican Republic, was discovered to have breached 16 rules of the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program (TACP) in eight matches.

He was also found to have tampered with match scores on a handheld device to aid individuals in placing bets on specific points in matches at the ITF M15 tournaments in the Dominican Republic in November and December 2019.

Carreras has been sidelined by the ITIA since March 1st of the previous year while the case was under scrutiny. Now, he is permanently prohibited from officiating or participating in any tennis matches overseen by the sport’s governing bodies.

Some of the specific infractions of the TACP in 2019 included D.1.d, which states that no official can attempt to influence the outcome of a match.

The ITIA also highlighted section D.2.b.

Its my duty, just as it is everyone else’s, to report any questionable match manipulation or associated actions to the ITIA immediately.
