Pennsylvania’s Online Gambling Sets a New Monthly High

The Keystone State established a new monthly earnings benchmark in the third month of the year.

Pennsylvania’s gambling income in March hit a record high of $554.6 million (£444.7 million/€519.3 million), fueled by robust performance in the digital gambling sector.

Pennsylvania’s March revenue climbed 7.6% compared to $515.3 million in March 2023, and outpaced February’s $449.1 million by 11.1%. It also surpassed the previous monthly high of $534.2 million set in December.

Traditional slot machines were once again the primary source of income, generating $227.9 million in March, up 1.1%. This was despite the number of slot machines decreasing from 25,643 to 24,886.

However, revenue from land-based table games decreased by 0.8% in the month to $85.2 million.

Pennsylvania’s online gambling sets a new monthly high

The digital market and total online gambling revenue reached $191.1 million, up 29.0%, setting a new monthly record.

Online slot machine revenue increased by 29.3% to $135.5 million, while internet table game revenue also increased by 31.2% to $53.1 million. In contrast, online poker revenue fell by 14.4% in March to $2.5 million.

Pennsylvania’s Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course continues to lead the pack, with online gambling revenue of $72.3 million. Valley Forge Casino Resort was again in second place, reporting revenue of $50.8 million, followed by Rivers Casino Philadelphia with $32.8 million.

The sports wagering market continued to decline.

The flourishing video game sector in Pennsylvania is a positive indicator, however, the sports wagering market is facing difficulties.

Despite this, player spending still climbed by 10.7% in March, reaching $723.5 million, while earnings in March decreased 10.0% year-on-year to $45.6 million, marking a second consecutive decline after February. Of the total earnings in March, $42.3 million originated from online betting and $3.2 million from physical locations.

Valley Forge Casino Resort and its collaborator FanDuel remain the frontrunners in Pennsylvania. Earnings in March amounted to $24.4 million, with players placing bets totaling $333.2 million.

Meadows’ Hollywood Casino and DraftKings secured second place once again, with total wagers of $209.2 million and earnings of $10.7 million. Hollywood Casino at Morgantown, partnered with BetMGM, ranked third with earnings of $1.8 million and wagers of $51.9 million.

In other gambling endeavors in Pennsylvania, video lottery terminal earnings dropped 0.5% to $3.7 million. Fantasy sports earnings decreased 21.1% to $1.1 million.
