Scientific Games Expands Lottery Presence in Turkey

Scientific Games is broadening its lottery reach in Turkey. The company has introduced its instant ticket retail and digital gaming platform at 5,000 locations, aiming to double that figure by year’s end.

This follows Scientific Games’ pact last year to provide instant ticket products and retail technology to a joint venture between Italian firm Sisal and Turkey’s Şans Dijital. This joint venture secured the Turkish 10-year lottery contract in August 2019.

Scientific Games is deploying its “Wave” branded terminals and its Open Gaming System platform for digital instant tickets.

“We are thrilled to continue our success in Turkey, collaborating with our reliable partners Şans Dijital and Sisal on two ventures with substantial growth aspirations, both focused on expanding retail and digital participation,” stated Pat McHugh, CEO of SG Lottery.

“Through our collaboration with trusted long-term partners Şans Dijital and Sisal, Scientific Games is maximizing sales and profits for the Turkish government and introducing a completely new gaming entertainment experience to Turkish players.”

Also in August 2019, Scientific Games initiated sports betting in Turkey through its joint venture with Şans Dijital, Şans Girişim, which is owned by Turkish corporate group Demirören Holding.

The vendor reported that its sports wagering offerings processed over $220 million in wagers during a single week in July.

Last week, Scientific Games’ chairman, Ron Perelman, consented to divest his 34.9% holding in the provider to a consortium of institutional investors, including FTSE 250 member Caledonia Investments, for a sum exceeding $900 million. The agreement will also witness two Aristocrat Leisure veterans taking the place of Perelman and his delegates on the Scientific Games board.
