Buzz Bingo Halloween Ad Censored by UK Watchdog for Targeting Children

The United Kingdom’s advertising regulatory body, the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), recently criticized Buzz Bingo for a Halloween campaign deemed inappropriate. The advertisement, appearing on Facebook in late October 2023, displayed a cemetery setting with a cartoon aesthetic—including pumpkins, bats, and similar imagery—to publicize their “Monster Monday” promotional event.

An individual expressed dissatisfaction, asserting that the advertisement’s child-oriented appearance violated guidelines by potentially attracting minors. The ASA concurred, despite Buzz Bingo acknowledging the advertisement’s potential appeal to children and subsequently removing it. The ASA’s rationale? Halloween holds significant importance for youngsters, and the cartoon visuals resembled those found in comics or graphic novels intended for a young audience.

The UKs advertising watchdog, the ASA, recently stopped a Buzz Bingo promotion intended to draw in fresh participants. Apparently, the use of the term “monster” in the advertisement’s text raised concerns about potentially appealing to children, a significant violation of British advertising regulations. Buzz Bingo withdrew the advertisement and pledged to exercise greater caution moving forward.
