The Rise of Women in Esports: A Look at the Top Earners and the Future of Competitive Gaming

The United States leads the world in the number of top-paid women gamers, a new study reveals. More than 160 of the 500 highest-paid women gamers hail from the US, collectively earning over $1.8 million. Katherine Gunn, whose gamertag is Mystik, is the top-earning female US gamer, with estimated total earnings of $122,500.

Although the US is prominent on the list, Canada is home to the highest-earning female gamer ever. Sasha Hostyn, known as Scarlett in the StarCraft II community, has earned more than $300,000 playing the game.

“As stated by Laila Shabir during the Take-Two discussion at this year’s E3, ‘Ninety percent of children who engage in video games identify as gamers, encompassing both female and male players.'” This figure, while already noteworthy, becomes even more significant when considering the substantial disparity in earnings between female and male gamers.

The highest-earning male gamer, Johan Sundstein, known as “N0tail,” has amassed nearly $7 million from gaming; this sum surpasses the combined earnings of the top three highest-earning female gamers.

“This underscores the importance of highlighting the influence of female gamers and demonstrating global recognition for their talent and capabilities,” Ross added.

This period holds particular significance for the esports wagering sector, which is poised to experience a substantial influx of capital. Numerous individuals, including former Luckbox CEO Quentin Martin, who conveyed his insights to Gambling Insider in October 2020, anticipate esports betting to emerge as the next major trend.
